Is that prosecco “Spumante”?? Not a fan of Prosecco myself, too much cheap crap on the market in my opinion. Are you a fan of Prosecco in general, and could you find better sparklers for €20 elsewhere?? And heres another one for you; Whats your overall opinion on New World sparkler’s?

Congrats on #50! Shows determination and we’re watching you here in Naples, Florida. Gary

Kev – So sorry for the delay in posting this comment things have just been mental busy !!
We have confirmed via maurice that it is a full spumante – and I am a fan of prosecco but just the good kind. Like you mention there is a lot of very average stuff pumped into the marketplace but there are some real winners out there to. For Fizz under €20 you are talking mostly New World – New Zealand [Cloudy Bay Pelorus], Australia but with the duty on sparkling so high in Ireland that they are often just over the 20. There are some good options from the south of france and the loire valley if you are looking for something a little different.
Overall I am very pro the new world sparkler – it offers great choice and good value for money. In my experience new world sparklers at €20 are much better then any champagnes at that price

Great thanks Frank, I have normally stayed clear of NW bubbles, but I will be a bit more adventurous next time on the back of your advice.

I agree the New world produce some very good sparklers but they are quite hard to find in Ireland. Pelorus from Cloudy Bay is really good (when Veuve Clicquot bought Cloudy Bay in the 90’s the only wine they wouldnt import into Europe at the time was Pelorus.. I wonder why!). Also Green Point from Domaine Chandon in the cool climate Yarra Valley, its now available under the new Chandon label in Ireland at under €20. Also worth looking for are Jansz and Seaview. All are methode traditionelle (Champange method) and from the classic 3 Champange varieties. They dont compete with the bigger NEw World sparklers but with cheaper own label champagnes that generally undergo the min bottle ageing and tend to be one dimensional and quite acidic.
