Bidgeebong Gundagai Shiraz 2003
Dark purple black colour to this wine – with almost a port like nose. This wine was hugely ripe with boatloads of fruit !
On the nose there was plums, sweet tobacco with some pepper and spice. This wine is hugely ripe and lush, which were the port comparison comes from, but for me the sweet tobacco was the predominant aroma on the nose.
On the palate this is a big wine with super ripe fruit. People will need to hold onto their hats with this wine as it is a fruit BOMB ! There is just buckets and buckets of fruit ! In the wine trade a fruit bomb where a New World Wine has loads of fruit to the front on a wine that overpowers almost all other qualities to the wine. This does not have to be a bad term as there are loads of people who just love fruit and these wines are for them ! The palate on this wine is totally dominated by plum, blackberries and sweet tobacco. The fruit is a little to much over the top for me but still a solid wine.
There was a solid finish to this wine, which was very smooth with very fine tannins. While the fruit was a little over the top for me I opened this wine at my parents house on Christmas Eve and my Dad loved it !
Robertfranciswine – 88 Plus Points
This was a wine that I got from Cases but I do not know if they will continue to stock it or the price.
If I had to stick my neck out I would go €18 a bottle for this wine.
