Oz Clarke Pocket Wine Book 2009
I have been a fan of Oz Clarkes for a long time now. Whether it is his old school footage on Food and Drink on BBC 2 in the late 80’s or him travelling various wine regions of the world with Top Gears James May it is always entertaining. Sometimes some of Oz’s descriptions can be a little over the top or even ridiculous but there is no doubting the mans incredible palate and passion for wine.
In his pocket wine book Oz sets out to pack as much about wine in this tiny book as is possible. The format of the book is essentially the same as a wine dictionary. Whereas other books such as Hugh Johnsons [review to follow soon] divide the world into the various wine regions Oz just sorts by alphabetical order and off we go.
There are some nice pieces about the wine regions of the world at the start and a listing of some of Oz’s favourite producers by wine styles. It has to be said that the favourite producer part hasnt changed a whole lot from last years edition. But otherwise there are updated vintage charts and some interesting food and wine pairings. Overall a solid buy and a pretty fair price.
